Ewan MacLeod returns home in shame to his home on the Scottish coast, after giving up university, where he becomes caught up in the history of the noble Scottish nation and its relationships with the English and Americans. A classic Gunn story, where the elements of nature add to the struggles of the characters. I enjoyed the book more as it went on and the pace picked up a bit – a bit of perseverance with this definitely pays off.
